Boat Dock

It’s important that your dock framing adheres to all applicable building codes. Taking the easy or cheapest route may come back to cause you trouble. Many waterfront homes in South Florida have retaining walls between the dock and the backyard. If you are considering adding or repairing your retaining wall or any load bearing structure, it is very important to have a certified engineer familiar with marine applications look at the plans and specifications of your load bearing foundations, footers, pin piles, and grade beams.  Making sure you use the right marine grade lumber for the framing of your deck...

Retaining wall

Do you see cracks in your cap or in your retaining wall? If you stand at one end of your seawall and look down the seawall do you see anything other than a perfectly strait concrete edge? Are you loosing sediment or soil near your seawall? Does your yard seem to be sinking near your seawall? If you can get a probing bar under your seawall panel at low tide with less than a foot of the bar inserted into the ground you may have a undermined seawall and you should consult with us right away. If you answer yes...

Retaining wall

Get an independent inspection from a Licensed Marine Contractor. Make sure they get in the water and check the seawall at low tide. They should use a probing stick to see if they can reach the bottom of your seawall within one foot of the topsoil. If they do,  you may have an undermined seawall or you may need a footer. They should check each of your piles for parasites and corrosion. They should check your deck substructure, stringers, braces ect. Contact The Dock Experts for your complimentary consultation.
